Fathoms Below by Wynta-Illustrations Fathoms Below by Wynta-Illustrations
I think it is very clear that I love the Little Mermaid. Haha. I have since I was little and my parents taped (yes, with a VCR) the film on tv and I played it over and over again until the ol' tape was well and truly wrecked and my parents were sick of the fathoms below songs. Strangely enough, it seems that every year I somehow manage to do a little mermaid piece. I'm happy to say that every time I do, I can be proud of the amount of skill developments and style improvements I have made.

This started off as just a little digital painting project to get my skills up again and over the last month or so, it's become a major project that I have been in love with one minute and cursing the next (how many times I changed her hands, I do not honestly know).

Anyway, this was all done in Photoshop CS4 using my Intuos 4 Wacom tablet.

Critiques are appreciated! I know I could dabble with this a little longer but I'm about to run out of steam so. I'm pleased with the end result for now!

Awesome, this looks great Lauren =D I remember having all these Disney movies on recorded for the VCR as well - we had Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast which was ridiculously bad quality that the movie looked darker than what it actually was. When I watched them in DVD quality it was like watching it with fresh eyes =P

Haha thanks V :)
Yeah I remember having the Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast mostly. I remember being frightened of the beast for a time but apparently I watched the movie so often at a friend of the parents' place, they ended up giving my the VHS tape xD hehe

Haha, a good keepsake from your childhood then =P There's that new Disney film called Frozen coming out this year - hope that'll be good. I also watched that Paperman short film - it's so good. I miss the traditional animation that Disney used to do so often

hehe definitely....soon as I find it again. :/
yeah I heard about that. It's supposed to run along the storyline of 'The Snow Queen' story.
I love Paperman. :) its a gorgeous hybrid between 2D and 3D animation. sigh.
